“Minimal yet dense, abrasive noise melding tape loops, field recordings and knackered machinery at the hands of Mjölby, Sweden’s finest, Altar Of Flies. ‘The Violent Blow’ is a crushingly heavy sound intent on slowly burying you up to the ears in rubbled rhythms and petrified, stunted synth tones. There are five tracks, or songs if you want, scrabbling at the intersection of analogue machine abuse and rubbled concrète texture with seemingly calloused hands and gristly bits of nail hanging from the fingertips. They range in turn from the furnace blast dynamics and demolished rhythms of the title track thru the quarried chamber dubnoise of ‘Crumbling Tones (For Turid & Thunder)’ and into the submergence of ‘Hollow’ to a the torrid inferno ‘Aeration / Black River’ and the mighty closing statement - practically worth the admission alone - ‘Under Tension’, staggering from blistered distortion and bruising bass weight to a chilling passage sounding like Nate Young gone radiophonic. Artwork by Daniel Fagerström, mastered by Riccardo Mazza (Lettera 22), limited to 150 copies. It was recorded 2011.
